We know it’s hard enough finding a job that you think is a good fit based on your skill set, which is why we’ve put together some tips to help with the next step of the process. Your application or email with your resume will either attract or deflect job recruiters depending on how you do it. Here are a few tips:
Avoid spammy messages - Job recruiters get thousands of messages daily so they can spot spammy messages a mile away. The best way to stand out is to use a specific message that is not a generic message for every job you apply to.
Be specific and mention the role you’re interested in - There are several emails that job recruiters get daily. A good way to differentiate your email is to put the job you’re interested in right in the subject line. This may seem rudimentary but is easy to forget when you are applying for so many jobs,
Don’t beat around the bush - Keep your message short, sweet, and clear. The job recruiter doesn’t have time to read through an email with a bunch of extra words.
Talk about your value - The last thing you want to come off as is needy before you even get an interview for the job. A follow-up email is okay, but make sure you wait a week or two first if that’s when they said they’d be reaching out. If you are doing a follow-up email after the first interview, you can do that the same day.
Provide multiple methods of contact - Although email tends to be the go-to for most job recruiters, you should provide your phone number as well. Some job recruiters prefer calling because there is less wait time for a response from the applicant.
Provide a reference - Not all jobs require references, but if there is a spot for one you should provide one. Job recruiters like to see applicants that have someone to confirm they are hardworking and dependable.
